About GFIEF

The Georgia Food Industry Education Foundation was created in 1995. Since then, GFIEF has awarded 982 scholarships totaling over $797,440!

The Georgia Food Industry Education Foundation (GFIEF) is one of the most successful grocery state association programs in the country! Fundraisers are held annually and the program benefits all GFIA member companies - retailers, wholesalers and suppliers.

The GFIEF awards scholarships to high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are part-time or full-time employees and/or the children of full-time employees of Georgia Food Industry Association member companies. The parent must have been employed for at least one year as of January 1 of the application year. The applicant must have been employed for at least six months as of January 1 of the application year.

In addition to awarding actual scholarships to deserving students, the Foundation also funds member programs such Food Safety Training Reimbursements and the new Career Link which will provide members with an opportunity to post resumes and job openings.

How Can Your Company Take Advantage of the Scholarship Program?

Applying For and Funding College Scholarships:

•  Encourage your employees to apply every year! Applications can be received Jan 1- March 1 of each year. Applications are available on-line at www.gfia.org or by phone / email request (770-438-7744 or whager@gfia.org).

•  GFIA Members are offered the opportunity to fund scholarships in the name of your company (or a person of importance). A company can chose to fund scholarships that are only awarded to the employees of their company (Piggybacking) or you can fund an award that will be given to an employee of a GFIA member (Sponsoring). Piggybacking is a great opportunity for a company wishing to offer scholarships to their employees without the hassle or politics of selecting winners. Sponsoring is a great idea for ven dors wishing to provide scholarships to their retail customers while gaining recognition. Interested companies select the amount they want to fund, specify criteria and that's it! The GFIEF will judge scholarships, disburse funds and absorb all administrative costs. For more information on funding awards please contact Nancy McPherson, nmcpherson@gfia.org .

Food Safety Reimbursements:

Each retail company is eligible for up to $1,500 in reimbursements annually when you send employees for Food Safety Training. For details contact, Jacqueline Byrd, jbyrd@gfia.org

Career Link:

This site will be available on the GFIA website by Feb. 1st. For information on posting jobs and resumes, contact Nancy McPherson, nmcpherson@gfia.org .
